Wabash split a pair of matches Saturday to open the 2016 spring tennis season. The Little Giants rallied for a 6-3 win versus Monmouth after losing 5-4 to Augustana.

Wabash took an early 2-1 lead in doubles play versus Augustana after
Kirill Ivashchenko and
Mazin Hakim combined for an 8-4 win in the second flight as did
George Go III and
Nicholas Pollock at three doubles.

Jordan Greenwell scored a straight sets win --- 6-4, 7-6 (4) --- at number one singles. Ivashchenko also won in straight sets in the third singles flight by scores of 6-3 and 6-4.
Nathan Neal cruised to a 6-3, 6-4 win at sixth singles. Augustana scored straight sets wins in the fourth and fifth flights of singles play.
Michael Makio forced a third set at number one single after rallying from a 6-3 deficit in the first set to score a 7-6 (1) win in the second. Makio could not complete the rally, dropping the third set 10-5.

Makio and Greenwell began the second match against Monmouth with an 8-3 win at number one doubles. The Little Giants took another point at second doubles with an 8-0 sweep by Ivashchenko and Hakim.

Makio scored a 7-5, 6-3 win in the first flight of singles action, followed by a 6-2, 6-3 win by Greenwell at number two singles. Ivashchenko scored his second individual victory of the day with a 6-2, 6-4 win at third singles. Hakim rallied to win a three-set match at number six singles with a 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 result.

Wabash opens home action this Saturday. The Little Giants will play Oberlin College at 9 a.m. at the Collett Tennis Center, followed by a 5 p.m. match against Elmhurst College.
