Tennis Opens NCAC-MIAA With Win Over Adrian

The Wabash College tennis team traveled to Michigan Friday evening to play the first of three matches against opponents from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association. The Little Giants began with an 8-1 win over Adrian College.

The two-day competition features Wabash as the lone representative from the North Coast Athletic Conference and includes Alma College and host Hope College from the MIAA.

The Little Giants swept doubles play against Adrian Friday night. Michael Makio and William Reifeis won their 17th number one doubles match of the season by a score of 8-2. Jordan Greenwell and Kirill Ivashchenko scored an 8-6 win at number two doubles. Mazin Hakim and George Go III combined for an 8-5 win in the third doubles flight.

Wabash won five of the six singles matches in straight sets. Makio picked up a 6-4, 6-0 win at one singles. Greenwell picked up a 6-2, 6-2 victory at third singles, while Ivashchenko earned a 6-3, 6-4 win in the fourth flight. Nicholas Pollack won number five singles by scores of 6-4, 6-1. Hakim closed out the match with a 6-1, 6-4 win at number six singles.

Wabash (13-10) completes the NCAC-MIAA Challenge Saturday, starting with a 9 a.m. match versus Alma. The Little Giants close out competition against Hope at noon.
