Wabash completed the 2016 North Coast Athletic Conference – Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Men's Tennis Challenge with a perfect 3-0 record after scoring 7-2 wins over Alma College and Hope College Saturday.
The Little Giants defeated Adrian College 8-1 Friday evening.
Wabash opened Saturday's morning round with a 7-2 win over Alma. The Little Giants captured victories in two of the three doubles matches.
Jordan Greenwell and
Kirill Ivashchenko scored a 9-8 (5) win in the second flight, while
Mazin Hakim and
George Go III combined for an 8-3 win at third doubles.
Michael Makio cruised to a win in straight sets at number one singles (6-1, 6-2).
William Reifeis won his second flight of singles play 6-1, 6-4. Greenwell lost one game out of 13 to his third singles opponent for a 6-0, 6-1 victory.
Nicholas Pollock captured the team point at fifth singles with a 6-4, 6-3 victory. Hakim had little trouble in his 6-0, 6-2 win at sixth singles.
Wabash (15-10) swept the doubles portion of its match versus Hope. Makio and Reifeis picked up an 8-1 win at number on doubles. Greenwell and Ivashchenko scored a 9-7 victory in the second flight. Hakim and Go won 8-5 at third doubles.
Makio rallied from a first-set deficit to win 1-6, 6-4, 10-6 at number one singles. Reifeis also needed three sets to earn a 6-2, 4-6, 10-7 in the second singles flight. Greenwell picked up his team-best 16
th singles win of the season with a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the third flight. Pollock scored the final team point with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at fifth singles.
Wabash travels to DePauw University for a Wednesday afternoon match against the Tigers.
