Wabash placed fifth at the 2017 North Coast Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Tournament by defeating Ohio Wesleyan 5-4 Saturday afternoon.
The Little Giants opened play with three consecutive wins in doubles play to take a 3-0 lead.
William Reifeis and
Patrick McAuley combined for an 8-4 win at number one doubles.
Michael Makio and
Jordan Greenwell scored an 8-2 victory in the second doubles flight.
Mazin Hakim and
Andrew Denning picked up the third team point with an 8-3 win at number three doubles.
Ohio Wesleyan (15-10) drew even in singles play with wins in the first, second, and fifth flights.
Patrick McAuley ended the Battling Bishops' string of wins with a two-set 6-3, 6-3 win at number four singles to provide Wabash a 4-3 lead. OWU responded with a victory at number three singles to put everything on the line in the fifth singles match.
Kirill Ivanshchenko claimed a 6-4 win over Jack Hibbard in their first set at number five singles. Hibbard rallied with 6-4 win in the second set to force a third and decisive set between the two players. Ivanshchenko took control, winning 6-2 to provide a 5-4 team victory for the Little Giants.
Wabash finished with an overall record of 12-14. Makio ended his career tied for second in career doubles victories with 72. He finished his senior season with 60 career singles victories to tie for fourth all time in Wabash tennis history.
