Box Score 2 Wabash opened the 2018 spring tennis season with a pair of victories Saturday. The Little Giants defeated Augustana College 5-4 to begin the day before shutting out Edgewood College 9-0 in the nightcap.
The day started with a victory at number one doubles in the Augustana match.
William Reifeis and
Patrick McAuley combined for an 8-4 victory at number one doubles for the Little Giants to set up singles play. McAuley scored a 6-4, 6-4 straight sets victory at number two singles.
Jordan Greenwell picked up a win at number three singles by the same 6-4, 6-4 scores.
Kirill Ivashchenko battled to a three-set win at number four singles by scores of 2-6, 7-5, 12-10.
Nicholas Pollock secured the win over Augustana with a 6-1, 6-2 victory in the fifth singles flight.
The Little Giants cruised in the final match of the day versus Edgewood. Reifeis and McAuley started with an 8-2 win at number one doubles. Greenwell and
Andrew Denning combined to win in the second doubles flight 8-2.
George Go III and Ivashchenko earned an 8-0 victory at number three doubles.
Reifies played to three sets at number one singles versus the Eagles, winning 5-7, 6-2, 10-6. McAuley improved to 2-0 on the day at number two singles with a 6-1, 6-1 victory. Wabash did not lose another game in the remaining singles matches. Greenwell (3rd singles), Ivashchenko (4th singles), Pollock (5th singles), and Denning (6th singles) all won by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores.
Wabash will open the home portion of its schedule next weekend against Oberlin College, facing the Yeomen Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Collett Tennis Center.
