The Wabash College doubles pair of
William Reifeis and
Patrick McAuley rallied from a second-set deficit to pick up a win in the round of 16 at the 2018 NCAA Division III Tennis Championships to earn place in the All-America rounds on Friday a the Biszantz Family Tennis Center at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges.
Reifeis and McAuley won the opening set 6-4 but fell behind 4-1 in the second set. The duo battled back in the next four games to take a 5-4 lead, eventually winning in straight sets with a 7-6 (4) victory to close out the match.
The two Little Giant players become the first in school history to earn All-America honors in tennis. They advance to the quarterfinals to face Jacob Kauppila and Ben Rosen from Bates College Friday at 3:30 p.m. (PDT). Kauppila and Rosen won in three sets (6-4, 3-6, 6-0) over fourth-seeded Julian Gordy and Nikola Parodi from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
