Wabash Provides Once-in-a-Generation Little Giant Stadium Opportunity

Last fall Wabash announced that an anonymous group of benefactors approached the College about taking a Giant Step with a lead gift significant enough to move forward with the construction of a new Little Giant Stadium.

This project will provide Wabash with a first-rate NCAA Division III facility for our student-athletes on the football and track and field teams, as well as our fans and the surrounding community

When construction began last November, no one could have predicted a pandemic that would lead to the decision by the College and the North Coast Athletic Conference to suspend intercollegiate athletics for this fall. Our athletes and coaches, along with the parents and fans who support them, are hurting over the loss of competition this season. We also see in our students an unrivaled "Wabash Always Fights" spirit of perseverance. Everyone in the Wabash community remains committed to staying healthy and safe.

In this spirit, Wabash is providing fans and supporters a chance to show our student-athletes that you are behind them. The College is inviting your philanthropic support for this once-in-a-generation project to bridge the gap between the generous lead gift and the total project cost, including an endowment to support Little Giant Stadium maintenance.

Several alumni and friends have stepped-up with their own generous gifts to establish group naming opportunities, including:
  • The Tribute Suite celebrates the winning tradition of Little Giant athletics.
  • The Team Tunnel recognizes the many contributions of Stan Parrish, who led the football program from 1978 to 1982. The football team will emerge from the Team Tunnel at the start of each game.
  • The Wabash Coaches Booth honors the legacy of Greg Carlson, who coached a generation of Little Giants from 1983 to 2000. Wabash football coaches will coach from this booth at every home game.
  • The Dave Harvey '78 Quarterback Suite honors the legacy of Wabash Hall of Fame member, David A. Harvey '78, who led the Little Giants to the 1977 Stagg Bowl and rewrote the record book.
  • The Red Pack and Track Suite celebrates the long and storied history of our Cross Country and Track and Field teams that dates back to the 1890s.
The College will recognize gifts of $1,000 or more in each of these named spaces. We will celebrate all gifts to Little Giant Stadium in the Hall of Giants under the main stands.

"Little Giant Stadium embodies the tremendous support and enthusiasm for student success at Wabash," Wabash Director of Athletics and Campus Wellness Matt Tanney said. "The facility matches up with any other Division III football and track venue in the country, and positions generations of Little Giant scholar-athletes for great achievements. We cannot wait to open such an exceptional facility and resume competition."

While much has happened around us, construction on the stadium has continued. The project completion date gives us a time-sensitive deadline of September 4, 2020 (new date!), for benefactors to the project to be included on the recognition plaques on display in the stadium.

You can make a one-time gift at www.wabash.edu/give and select Little Giant Stadium from the drop-down menu. Gifts may be sent via postal mail to Wabash College, Advancement Office, 301 W Wabash Ave., Crawfordsville, IN 47933.

If you wish to make a larger commitment over a two-to-five-year gift period, please contact the Wabash College Advancement Office, at advancement@wabash.edu or at 877-743-4545. When making your gift, please be sure to indicate if you wish for it to be included toward one of the group naming opportunities listed above.

Wabash appreciates gifts to this important project for the College and our student-athletes. And we look forward to future football, cross country, and track and field seasons enjoyed together – #WabashTogether – in the new Little Giant Stadium.
