The Wabash College wrestling team returned to competition for the first time since 2020 on Saturday. The Little Giants won the Adrian Invitational with 22 wrestlers earning top-eight places.

Wabash captured six individual championships in the 10 weight classes. The Little Giants recorded 17 pins throughout the tournament along with six technical falls.

Christian Merrill finished with a 4-0 record for the day to win the 125-pound weight class. He pinned Allan Davis from Henry Ford College in the finals. Brady Ester placed sixth overall in the weight class with a record of 3-2.

Blake McGee won the 133-pound weight class. He scored a 7-1 decision over teammate Andrew Sinkovics in the finals to finish 5-0 for the day. Sinkovics captured second place at 133 pounds with a record of 3-1.

Gavinn Alstott added another first-place finish for the Little Giants at 141 pounds. Alstott defeated fellow Wabash wrestler TJ Driessens by a 13-3 major decision in the finals to win the title with a 5-0 record. Driessens won his first four matches of the tournament before the loss to Alstott to finish in second place. Daniel Uribe picked up three wins to capture fourth place at 141 pounds.

Tyson Nisley earned a first-place finish at 157 pounds by going 5-0 overall. His 12-4 major decision in the championship match secured his title. Evan Burge placed third overall in the 157-pound weight class. Burge closed out the tournament with an 8-3 decision to finish 3-1 overall.

Chase Baczek scored a pin at the 4:48 mark of his finals bout in the 184-pound bracket to win that weight class title with a 5-0 record. Cameron Bacon also pinned his finals opponent in 2:06 to finish 3-1 overall and earn third place.

Jack Heldt won the 197-pound title with a perfect 5-0 record. He scored a 6-5 win in the finals to remain undefeated and capture the title. Matt Lepper went 3-2 for the day to finish in fourth place at 197 pounds. Grant Johnson was 5-1 in the bracket to earn a fifth-place finish, including a pin at 5:30 in his bout against teammate Nick Casad in the finals. The loss gave Casad sixth place overall with a 4-2 record for the tournament. 

Alex Barr went 4-1 for the day to place third at 159 pounds. He closed out the tournament with a 16-0 tech fall in his finals match.  

Ray Arebalo went 3-1 overall including a 3-0 decision in the finals of the 174-pound bracket to finish in third place. Bradley Harrington finished 4-2 overall to capture sixth place. Eero Gross added an eighth-place finish with a 3-3 mark for the tournament. 

James Lewis picked up three victories including a pin at 1:58 in the finals to finish in third place in the 285-pound weight class. Alex Naylor went 3-2 for the day to finish in sixth place. 

Johnathan Otte scored a pin 1:05 into his final match of the tournament to finish seventh at 165 pounds with a 3-2 record. 

Wabash scored a total of 216.5 points to easily outdistance the other 14 teams competing at the tournament. Adrian finished in second place with a score of 145.5. Heidelberg took third place with a total of 125.5 points.

The Little Giants return to action on Friday evening with a dual meet against Manchester College scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
