The Wabash golf team opened up a five-stroke lead in Saturday's first round of the 2021 Franklin College Spring Invitation, the first event of the team's 2021 schedule.
 
The Little Giants shot a six-over 294 at the Timbergate Golf Course in Edinburgh, Indiana on Saturday to finish ahead of the host Franklin College team in second place with a 299 and Spalding University in third place after carding a 314.
 
Wabash freshman Brayden Weiss shot one-under for his first collegiate round. Weiss turned in a round of 71 to put him one stroke ahead of teammate Justin Kopp in second place with an even-par round of 72. Will Osborn fired a three-over 75 for his first 18 holes of the two-day tournament to take seventh place entering Sunday's final round. Blake Miller sits in eighth place after 18 holes with a four-over 76. Miles Patterson shot an 84 to tie for 19^th place on the first day of competition.
