Football Game Info - Hiram at Wabash

Game Information - Hiram College (1-6, 1-5 NCAC) at Wabash College (5-2, 4-1 NCAC)

  • Wabash begins a two-game homestand of North Coast Athletic Conference games by facing the Hiram College Terriers.
     
  • Wabash is a perfect 14-0 in games played against Hiram. The two teams first played in 2000 after both schools joined the NCAC. The Little Giants are 7-0 at home versus Hiram, including a 24-0 in the last game played in Crawfordsville in 2019.
     
  • Wabash ran for 301 yards and two touchdowns and threw for another four scores in a 42-14 victory at Hiram in 2021. Donovan Snyder rushed for 138 yards and two TDs in the victory. Liam Thompson threw for 224 yards, completing 18 of his 25 pass attempts. Derek Allen, Jr. caught three passes for 49 yards and one touchdown. Cooper Sullivan, Heisman Skeens, and Zane Thomas also hauled in touchdown passes from Thompson, as well. The Little Giants held Hiram to 38 rushing yards on 28 carries. Wabash finished the game with six tackles for losses totaling 22 yards.
     
    The Little Giants improved to 5-2 overall and 4-1 record against NCAC opponents with a 66-20 victory at Oberlin. Wabash scored on ten of its 12 offensive possessions, including touchdowns six possessions in the victory. The Little Giants gained 667 yards of total offense compared to 261 for the host Yeomen. Liam Thompson completed 24-of-26 pass attempts for 367 yards and two TDs. Derek Allen Jr. caught five passes for a career-high 140 yards with one touchdown. Cooper Sullivan hauled in a team-best six passes for 87 yards. Heisman Skeens caught three passes for 30 yards and one TD. 

    Thompson broke the Wabash record for consecutive pass completions, connecting on 19 straight throws after opening the game hitting on three of his first four attempts.  He broke the mark of 17 consecutive completions by Russ Harbaugh '06 against Albion in 2003. 

    Wabash ran for seven touchdowns against the Yeomen, led by a three-TD effort from Donovan Snyder. The junior rushed for 54 yards on seven carries. Freshman Xavier Tyler ran for a career-high 140 yards and one TD on 17 attempts. Conner Grimes ran for two TDs and 93 yards. Thompson added the third rushing TD with a one-yard rush to open the Little Giants' scoring. The seven rushing TDs tied for the second-most in a single game for a Wabash team. Senior kicker Brigham Anderson also tied for the second-most made extra-point kicks in a game by going seven-for-seven on PAT attempts.

    The Little Giants  recorded a season-high five sacks, led by a pair of sacks from sophomore defensive lineman Owen Volk. Jamari Washington and Will Olive both recorded solo sacks. Sam Shockley and Brody Frey combined for one sack against the Yeomen. 
     
  • Wabash enters the weekend as the Division III leader in passing offense, averaging 362.1 yards per game. The Little Giants rank third in total offense at 547.9 yards per game, trailing North Central (595.4 ypg) and Howard Payne (554.0 ypg). Wabash also leads the North Coast Athletic Conference and ranks 17th in the nation in scoring offense by averaging 43.4 points per game.
     
  • Liam Thompson leads Division III in total offense with an average of 395.9 yards per game and total passing yards with 2,511. He ranks second in passing yards per game with an average of 358.7, trailing Hampden-Sydney quarterback Tanner Bernard with an average of 366.7 passing yards per game. Thompson is 11th in passing touchdowns with 21 this season.

    Thompson's 367-yard passing effort versus Oberlin moved him into third place on the Wabash career passing yardage list with 7,644 yards. He overtook  Chris Ings '96, who threw for 7,637 yards in four seasons with the Little Giants. Thompson trails Matt Hudson '09 in second place on the all-time passing list with 8,420 career years. Hudson also ranks second with 79 career touchdown passes. Thompson ranks third overall with 64 TD tosses.

     
  • Scouting The Terriers
    Hiram enters Saturday's contest with a record of 1-6 after capturing a 34-7 victory at Oberlin on October 1. The Terriers suffered three-point losses in back-to-back games against Denison (41-38) and Kenyon (34-31). 

    Senior running back Malcolm Rogers leads the conference in rushing with an average of 127 yards a game. He ranks fifth in the nation with 889 total rushing yards and 12th in yards per carry, averaging 7.23 yards per attempt. Rogers has rushed for more than 100 yards five times this season and has run for more than 100 yards in his last four games against Wittenberg (108), Oberlin (183), Denison (144), and Kenyon (193). He has scored 11 rushing touchdowns, finding the end zone three times in games versus Oberlin and Denison. Freshman quarterback Sean Tejeda is the second-leading rusher for Hiram with an average of 17.2 yards per game.

    Tejeda has thrown for 970 yards and five touchdowns, completing 80-of-154 pass attempts with four interceptions. His best game came against Denison with a 319-yard, two-TD effort versus the Big Red. Senior Raequan Davis-Hereford leads the team with 49 receptions for 474 yards and one TD. Moe Yarbrough has caught 30 passes for 318 yards and three scores. 

    Junior linebacker Dylan Baliker is the leader on defense with 71 tackles this season. He has made two tackles for losses and an interception. Floyd Shackelford has recorded a team-high 5-1/2 tackles for losses totaling 36 yards and a team-best three sacks for 19 yards. Baliker, Princeton Brown, Malakai Nation, Tonvanta "Tay" Revis, and Ricardo Jimenez each have one interception for Hiram.
