Kyle Hatch and
Jack Heldt claimed individual titles for the Wabash College wrestling team at Sunday's non-scoring Greyhound Open at the University of Indianapolis. The Little Giants captured eight top-six places overall.

Hatch finished the day with four wins in the 165-pound weight class. The top-seed of the bracket, Hatch opened by pinning Drew Kreitzer from the University of Indianapolis in 2:32. Hatch scored a 17-2 tech fall in the quarterfinal round versus Cole Ritter from Maryville. Hatch defeated Matthew Ortiz from Indiana University in the semis before claiming the weight class title with a 1-0 decision against Robert Major in the championship bout.

Heldt won all five matches at 197 pounds. He showed why he entered the tournament as the number-one seed in the weight class by winning the first three matches all by pin. Heldt took down Robby Gentry from Marian University in 4:40, pinned Jaybreon Litsey from Marian in 1:46, then advanced to the semis with a pin at 3:56 of Caleb Guise from McKendree. Heldt defeated Isiah Pettigrew by an 11-1 major decision before winning the 197-pound title with a pin at 4:36 of Vinnie Scaletta from McKendree in the finals.

Carlos Champagne won three matches at 125 pounds to place third overall. He scored a pin at 2:13 against Caden Crawford from Tiffin followed by a 6-2 decision over Riley Bettick from Calumet College in the quarterfinals. Champaign pinned DJ Smith in the consolation semis after a loss in the semifinal bout prior to receiving a forfeit in the finals to take third place.

Maxwell Bishop claimed third place at 285 pounds by earning five wins in the bracket. He started with two pins in the opening rounds with a win at 4:43 against Excell Brooks from Marian and a pin of Dustin Olmstead at 2:50 of their second-round bout. Bishop scored a 3-0 decision in the quarterfinals versus Dennis Hubbard from the University of Indianapolis. After a 3-1 loss in overtime by sudden victory in the semifinals, Bishop bounced back with a 7-0 win against Andre Irick from Indiana University in the consolation semifinals. Bishop took third place in the bracket after a no-contest in the finals.

Blake McGee opened the tournament with a pin of Kade Willis from Maryville at 4:14 in the 133-pound bracket. McGee scored two more wins --- a 16-1 tech fall against Eli Nazelrodt from Davis & Elkins College in the quarterfinals and a 16-0 tech fall versus Trey McCartney from Marin in the consolation semifinal round to place fourth overall.

Johnathan Otte scored a fifth-place finish at 157 pounds for the Little Giants. He pinned Derek Bratton 4:25 into their opening round bout. Otte earned another pin in the next round at the 4:49 mark of his bout versus Noah Baker from Marian. Otte won a 10-2 major decision versus Carter Winegardner in the quarterfinals and claimed fifth place with a win by medical forfeit in the finals.

Ray Arebalo also placed fifth in his 174-pound weight class bracket. He won his first match with a 3-2 decision over Kyle Saez from the University of Indianapolis. Arebalo scored a 15-0 tech fall in the next round against Zane Phillips from McKendree. A pin in the final minute of the quarterfinal bout against Mason Clem from Ohio University propelled Arebalo into the seminfinals. He finished the day by receiving a medical forfeit in the fifth-place bout in the consolation finals.

Chase Baczek won his first three bouts of the day to finish in sixth place at 184 pounds. Baczek defeated Michael Schneider by a 13-0 major decision in the opening round. Baczek won by an 18-0 tech fall versus Jacob Saylor from Indiana Tech in the next round and advanced to the semifinal round with a 12-8 victory against Rozell Baker from McKendree in the quarterfinals.
