Wabash College senior guard
Jack Davidson is one of 11 finalists for the Jostens Trophy.
The Jostens Trophy honors - one for men's basketball and one for women's basketball - are national awards created by the Rotary Club of Salem and sponsored by Jostens, Inc., to recognize the most outstanding men's and women's Division III basketball players of the year. The awards focus on three major criteria: basketball ability, academic prowess, and service to one's surrounding communities. The Jostens Trophy models the Rotary International motto of "Service Above Self" by recognizing those who truly fit the ideal of a well-rounded Division III student-athlete. The 2022 season marks the 24th time the Jostens Trophy honors will be awarded.
Davidson joins an impressive list of NCAA Division III men's players including two players from teams competing in this weekend's Men's Basketball Tournament games being played at Illinois Wesleyan. Joining Davidson on the finalists' list are Nyameye Adom from Wheaton College, Buzz Anthony from Randolph-Macon College, Nick Bowman from Trine University, Conner Delaney from Johns Hopkins University, Robert Hawkinson from New York University, Jordan Johnson from Concordia University-Wisconsin, Matthew Leritz from Illinois Wesleyan University, Luke Rogers from Tufts University, Dempsey Roggenbuck from Linfield University, and Matthew Schner from Emory University.Â
Davidson, an economics major and CoSIDA Academic All-District 7 selection with a 3.68 cumulative grade point average, ranks third in the nation in scoring by averaging 26.1 points per game. He was named the North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Year for the second time in his career and has earned the U.S. Basketball Writers Association DIII Men's Basketball Player on two different occasions this season. Davidson earned the honor the second time by scoring 97 points in three North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament games to lead the Little Giants to the title for the first time in school history and also secure the school's first NCAA Tournament berth since 1998. He helped Wabash win its first NCAC regular-season title since the Little Giants joined the league in 1999.Â
Davidson leads the nation in three-point field goal shooting percentage by hitting 49.8 of his shots behind the arc. His 116 made three-point baskets is the most by an NCAA DIII player this season. Davidson ranks first in free throws made (188), second in total points this season (756) among DIII players, and seventh in free throw shooting percentage (90.8 percent).Â
Davidson is an active member of Wabash College's Center for Innovation, Business, and Entrepreneurship. He has led teams of students working with local businesses and non-profit programs to analyze market conditions, business performance, and economic factors, using that research to develop new business models and marketing strategies. He and his Wabash teammates participate regularly with a local elementary school in a program called "Books, Basketball, and Beyond." He and his Little Giant teammates regularly meet with kindergarten and first-grade students to help develop and strengthen reading skills while also serving as positive male role models for the students.Â
Davidson and the rest of the Wabash team continue to play in the 2022 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Tournament. The Little Giants play Williams College Friday, March 11 at 4:30 p.m. CST at Illinois Wesleyan. Davidson helped Wabash advance to the round of 16 sectional contest by scoring a season-high 42 points in the Little Giants' 87-86 win at Emory last Saturday. Wabash opened the NCAA Tournament with a 91-79 victory over Berry College. Davidson finished with a game-high 34 points.Â
