Wabash Finishes Fourth At 2023 Pebworth Invitational

The Wabash College swimming and diving team turned in 11 top-ten finishes on the final day of the 2023 Gail Moll Pebworth Invitational to improve one spot in the final team standings. The Little Giants scored 652 points to finish in fourth place out of 11 teams competing at the three-day meet.
 
Quinn Sweeney finished the 100-yard individual medley in 52.83 to capture second place in Sunday evening's finals. Connor Craig captured tenth place in the "A" final with a time of 56.22. Justice Wenz posted the top finish in the "B" final of the 100-yard IM with a time of 56.14. Eddie DaMata finished in 56.67 to place 13th overall.
 
Nicholas Plumb finished second in the 200-yard backstroke, completing the race in 1:51.89. Nick Sommers scored a seventh-place finish in the "A" final with a time of 1:58.21.
 
Ethan Johns scored another second-place effort for the Little Giants by finishing the 100-yard freestyle in 46.16. Craig finished in 20th place in the "B" final with a time of 49.51.
 
Xander Straw swam to third place in the 1650-yard freestyle, finishing in 16:47.13. Will Renie added a seventh-place finish in the mile by completing the race in 17:07.00.
 
Sweeney raced to third place in the 200-yard butterfly by finishing in 1:55.72. Wenz added a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:11.35. Dane Market placed 14th in the "B" final by finishing in 2:13.55.
 
Bernardo Morales qualified for the men's three-meter diving event finals and placed tenth with a career-best score of 221.20.
 
Wabash finished the night with a fifth-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Johns, Plumb, John Allen, and Sweeney combined for a time of 3:10.77 to score the final points of the Invitational.
 
Birmingham-Southern won the men's team title with 907 points. Centre College finished second with 861 points, followed by Colorado College in third place with 846 points. Wabash scored 652 points in fourth place, with Ohio Northern in fifth place with 604 points. DePauw (582 points), Franklin (531 points), Albion (229 points), Asbury (200 points), Manchester (134 points), and Midway (107 points) completed the team rankings.
 
The Little Giants compete at DePauw University on Friday, December 1. The dual meet begins at 7 p.m.
