Wabash won seven events but could not score a team victory in the Little Giants' first dual meet of the 2024-25 season held Friday evening at Rose-Hulman. Wabash lost to the host Fightin' Engineers 160-137.

Freshman
Mason Gilliam posted a pair of individual wins in the distance events. He scored a victory in the 1000-yard freestyle with a top time of 9:54.59. Teammate
Nicholas Plumb added a third-place finish in the 1000 free with a time of 10:29.18. Gilliam scored another victory in the 500-yard freestyle, touching the wall for the final time in 4:50.90.
Xander Straw placed fourth in the 500 by finishing in 5:03.69.

Ryan West won in the 100-yard backstroke with a top time of 54.15.
Barret Smith took second place by finishing in 56.11. West and Plumb went 1-2 in the 200-yard backstroke with West claiming the individual victory with a time of 1:57.26. Plumb took second place at 1:59.38. West added a third-place effort in the 200-yard individual medley by completing the race in 2:01.34.
Quinn Sweeney finished in fourth place with a time of 2:01.71.

Sweeney won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:58.92. Plumb added a third-place finish with his time of 2:05.01. Sweeney scored a third-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly by posting a time of 54.06.
Connor Craig finished fourth with a time of 55.28, and
William Rife placed fifth at 55.73.

Craig won the 50-yard freestyle in 22.38 to add another victory to the Wabash team totals. Â

Ethan Johns,
Daniel Streeter, Craig, and Sweeney closed out the meet with a victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay, combining for a time of 3:15.53.

Johns placed second in the 200-yard freestyle by finishing in 1:49.10. Johns also finished second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.11 just ahead of Streeter in third place at 50.00.

Alexander Arruza scored a personal-best 190.15 points on the one-meter board to earn a second-place finish.
Keane Albright captured third place with a career-best total of 184.75 points. Arruza added a third-place finish on the three-meter board with a career-best score of 182.20.

The Little Giant foursome of West,
Justice Wenz, Craig, and Johns captured second place in the 200-yard medley relay, completing the race in 1:40.08. Wenz earned a third-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:04.62 and scored a third-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:21.75.

Wabash opens the home portion of the season on Saturday with a double-dual meet against Albion College and Centre College at 2 p.m. in the Class of 1950 Natatorium.
