Wabash captured eight top-eight finishes with one individual title at the non-scoring 2024 Indiana Little State Wrestling Tournament hosted by the University of Indianapolis on Saturday.

Junior
James Day finished 4-0 at 133 pounds for the tournament, starting with a 17-0 tech fall against Dominic Sumner from Manchester. A 5-2 quarterfinal victory over James Armstrong Jr. from West Liberty sent Day to the semifinal round, where he earned an 8-3 decision against Tanner Tishner. Day captured the 133-pound title with an 11-0 major decision in his championship match against Landon Bertsch from Marian University.

Titus Waters wrestled to second place at 285 pounds with four wins in the bracket. He pinned Eldrich Flores from Marian in the opening round, then scored a 9-2 decision against Ty Cobb for Lourdes in round two. A 4-1 decision in the quarterfinals against Dustin Olmstead from McKendree advanced Waters to the semifinals, where he received a medical forfeit. A loss in the finals ended Waters' afternoon with a second-place finish in the bracket.

Jaylen Young took third place in the 174-pound bracket with three victories on the day. He scored an 8-2 victory over Liam Schram from Thomas More to start the tournament, then defeated Toby Abbott from West Liberty 6-1 in the quarterfinals. An 8-3 loss in the semifinal put Young in the third-place bout against TJ Huber from Cumberlands, earning a 5-1 decision.

Mawuli Nevis picked up a fourth-place finish at 165 pounds. The senior won his first three matches, starting with a 15-0 tech fall against Mason Daring from Manchester. Nevis pinned Jimmy Lacey from Marion in the next round and then scored a 9-2 decision against Landon Buchanan from Indiana Tech in the quarterfinals. Losses in the semifinals and third-place matches gave Nevis the fourth-place finish in the weight class.

Andrew Ross added a fifth-place finish at 149 pounds with five wins for the day. He scored a 19-2 tech fall over Oshea Phillips from Manchester to begin the day, followed by a 4-2 victory in round two against Finn Merrill from UIndy. Ross rallied after a quarterfinal loss with a 14-5 major decision over Hunter Isaacs from Thomas More in the consolation bracket. Ross scored a 12-6 win against Marlin Williams from Marian University in the consolation semifinals before getting a forfeit in the finals for a fifth-place finish.

Andrew Punzalan earned a seventh-place finish at 125 pounds by posting three victories. He opened the tournament by pinning Junior Arizmendi from Manchester 2:05 into their match. A sudden victory loss in the quarterfinals sent Punzalan to the consolation bracket, where he scored a 15-0 tech fall over Daven Lockwood. A loss in the consolation semifinals put Punzalan in the seventh-place match, where he defeated Mason Jones from Manchester 6-4.

Mason Weyant earned an eighth-place finish at 141 pounds after picking up three wins. An opening-round loss sent the freshman to the consolation bracket, where he scored a first-round pin at 2:10 in his match against teammate
Xavier Roberts. Weyant earned a 177-0 tech fall over Diego Nava from Indiana Tech in the next round, then scored another pin at 2:34 of the following round against Dylan Coleman from Rochester. Two losses in the consolation semifinals and finals gave Weyant eighth place in the bracket.

Zachary Huckaby picked up four wins with two pins to capture eighth place at 174 pounds. He scored his first pin at the 2:07 mark of his match against Max Wiler from Manchester. A 7-3 loss in the second round sent Huckaby to the consolation bracket, where he earned a pin five minutes into his bout against Luke Dwyer from Manchester. Huckaby defeated Indiana Tech's Griff Bekish 8-1 in the next round of the consolation bracket, then scored a 17-12 decision over teammate
Elorm Nevis to advance to the consolation semifinals. A pair of losses by decision ended the day for Huckaby with an eighth-place finish in the weight class.
