Wabash Third Entering Final Day of 2024 NCAC Swimming and Diving Championships

Wabash put four swimmers in "A" finals and scored 133 team points on the one-meter diving board to remain solidly in third place in the men's standings after the third day of the 2024 North Coast Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships.
 
Freshman Nicholas Plumb scored the highest individual finish for the Little Giants through the first three days of the meet, finishing seventh in the "A" final of the 100-yard backstroke. Plumb completed the race in 51.62. Barret Smith also qualified for the "A" final in the 100 backstroke, finishing in eighth place. Smith turned in a career-best time of 51.70 in the morning prelims, then swam the race in 52.02 in the finals.
 
Nick Sommers competed in the "B" final of the 100 backstroke and finished 10th with a time of 52.51. He recorded a career-best time of 52.41 in the prelims to earn a place in the "B" final.
 
Ethan Johns and Quinn Sweeney qualified for spots in the "A" final of the 200-yard freestyle. Johns finished eighth with a finals time of 1:42.10. Sweeney took ninth place in the finals by finishing in 1:42.32. John Allen swam in the "B" final of the 200-yard freestyle, capturing 14th place with a time of 1:44.14 after posting a career-best time of 1:43.45 in the morning prelims. Xander Straw joined Allen in the "B" final and earned 17th place with a time of 1:44.72.
 
Three Wabash divers qualified for spots in the finals of the one-meter diving competition. Bernardo Morales earned a seventh-place finish with a personal-best score of 300.00 points. Keane Albright captured eighth place in the finals with a career-best score of 282.85 points. Alexander Arruza placed ninth overall with a career-best score of 277.05 points in the finals.
 
Christopher Wiatr did not qualify for the finals but scored 22 points for Wabash with a 10th-place finish in one-meter diving after scoring 262.60 points. Nicolas Hakimian picked up 19 total points with his 11th-place finish with 261.70 points. Chayce Howell placed 13th overall with a score of 226.80 to add 17 points to the Little Giants' team score.
 
Connor Craig picked up a 12th-place finish in the "B" final of the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 52.13. Daniel Streeter also competed in the "B" final of the 100 fly, finishing in 17th place with a time of 53.23. Brock Schall placed 18th in the 100 fly "B" final, finishing in 53.48. Schall turned in a career-best time of 53.24 in the morning session to earn a place in the evening "B" final. Ethan Comeyne competed in the "C" final and placed 22nd with a time of 54.25.
 
Dane Market swam to 14th place in the "B" final of the 400-yard individual medley. He finished the race in a career-best time of 4:19.53. Morgan Govekar competed in the "C" final of the 400 IM, finishing 22nd overall with a time of 4:35.09.
 
Justice Wenz and Eddie DaMata swam in the "B" final of the 100-yard breaststroke. Wenz finished 12th overall with a time of 59.01. DaMata finished the race in 59.06 to earn 13th place.
 
The Little Giants finished Friday's competition with a sixth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Sweeney, Johns, Allen, and Craig combined for a season-best time of 1:24.60.   
 
Wabash finished the night with 846.5 points. Denison leads the team scoring with 1,293 points. Kenyon sits in second place with 1,283 points. Wooster is fourth (758 points), followed by Oberlin in fifth place (667 points). DePauw is sixth in the standings with 517 points. Ohio Wesleyan (322 points), Wittenberg (258.5 points), and Hiram (190 points) complete the team scoring.
 
The final day of competition begins Saturday at 9:30 a.m. with the preliminary round. Finals start at 6 p.m. Saturday.
