Cole Shifferly and sophomore
Murilo Guarniari competed on Friday and Saturday at the Knight Time Tennis Tournament played nearby at Brownsburg High School. The Little Giants battled against players from the University of Indianapolis, Marian University, St. Francis (Ind.), and Tiffin University in both singles and doubles competition.
Shifferly opened the weekend with a 6-3, 6-2 loss to Jovan Matovic of the University of Indianapolis before bouncing back with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Tiffin's Nicholas Pierre. Shifferly then capped his tournament with a comeback win in their rematch, defeating Pierre 5-7, 7-6 (4), 10-7.
Guarniari dropped his opening match 6-3, 6-2 to Marian's Marc Soriano Sanchez, but rebounded with a commanding 6-0, 6-1 victory over Tiffin's Jaden Coley. Guarniari's run ended in a 6-4, 6-3 loss to Tiffin's Nico Ritz.
In doubles action, the tandem of Shifferly and Guarniari fell 6-2 to Marian's Marcos Ramos and Jan Bartolome in their opener before earning a dominant 6-0 win over Tiffin's Ethan Remy and Jaden Coley. The Wabash duo narrowly missed forcing a tiebreak in their final match, dropping a close 7-5 decision to Tiffin's Nicholas Pierre and Juan Diego Castro.
The tournament completes the fall season for the Little Giants.
