Wabash Claims Five Titles, 18 Top-Eight Finishes at Mid-States Invitational
ADRIAN, Mich. — Wabash College crowned five individual champions and produced 17 top-eight finishes Saturday at the Mid-States Invitational hosted by Adrian College. The tournament did not include team scoring.

Senior James Day led the way at 133 pounds, capturing the title with four bonus-point victories. Day opened with a fall in 4 minutes, 51 seconds against Alma's Colton Kennedy, then posted 15-0 technical falls over Manchester's Joshua Marlin and Kaleb Salazar. He secured the championship with a 16-1 technical fall against Manchester's Nasir Christion.
At 174 pounds, sophomore Jaylen Young claimed the crown with three falls. Young pinned Trine's Lane Gibson in 3:52 and Olivet's Carter Bradburn in 1:14 before advancing past teammate Elorm Nevis by no contest in the semifinals. He closed out the tournament with a fall in 1:21 against Ohio Northern's Flint Guerra in the championship match.
Sophomore Zach Huckaby earned the title at 184 pounds. Huckaby pinned Manchester's Dallas Godby in 1:32 and Trine's Xander Lachance in 1:51 before recording a 7-3 decision over Ohio Northern's Aiden Helmke in the semifinals. He defeated teammate Michael Taheny 7-2 in the championship bout.
At 197 pounds, junior Hadyn Ball and sophomore Spencer Watson advanced to an all-Wabash final. Ball opened with 14-4 and 16-2 major decisions and edged Manchester's Cameron Crisp 4-3 in the semifinals. Watson reached the final with three consecutive falls in 2:17, 0:42, and 3:59. Ball secured the title with a 4-1 sudden victory decision over Watson.
Junior Titus Waters delivered a dominant run at heavyweight. Waters recorded two technical falls, two pins, and a major decision en route to the championship. He pinned Ohio Northern's Sam Cruser in 1:54, added technical falls of 19-4 and 17-1, secured a 2:22 fall in the semifinals, and finished with a 14-3 major decision over Lakeland's Diego Morales in the final.
Wabash produced four runner-up finishes. Junior Andrew Punzalan placed second at 125 pounds after earning a 19-4 technical fall and a 13-5 major decision to reach the final before falling 10-2. Sophomore Cooper McCloy finished second at 165 pounds with a 1:38 fall and a 6-2 semifinal decision before a 6-1 loss in the championship match. Taheny advanced to the 184-pound final with a 4:04 fall, a 16-1 technical fall, and a 3:49 fall prior to finishing second. Watson's runner-up performance at 197 completed the quartet of finalists.
Freshman Isaac Ash claimed third place at 125 pounds. After opening with a 17-3 major decision, Ash rebounded from a semifinal loss with technical falls of 18-1 and 18-0 to secure third.
Sophomore Carson Fettig placed third at 149 pounds, recording a 2:07 fall, an 11-0 major decision, and a 16-0 technical fall before a 5-4 semifinal loss. He responded with a 16-0 technical fall in the consolation semifinals and won the third-place bout.
Sophomore Grant Brewer added a third-place finish at 157 pounds. Brewer pinned his opening opponent in 3:00, earned an 8-0 major decision, and posted a 2-1 quarterfinal decision before securing third with an 11-3 major decision and an 8-1 decision.
Nevis placed third at 174 pounds, highlighted by a 4:00 fall and a 14-2 major decision before earning 18-7 and 4-2 victories in the consolation bracket.
Freshman Caden Polson finished fourth at 141 pounds after rebounding from an early loss with three consecutive decisions and falls in 2:46 and 2:33 to reach the third-place match.
At 157 pounds, freshman Chasen Kazmierczak placed fifth with three consecutive falls in 1:24, 2:12, and 3:34 during a consolation run. Senior Andrew Ross added a seventh-place finish, highlighted by a 1:20 fall and a 17-0 technical fall in the placement match. Freshman Timothy Sebastian finished eighth at the same weight, earning a 3:52 fall and a 10-7 decision.
Wabash will compete at the 2026 NCAA Division III Central Region Tournament at John Carroll University February 27-28.
