Wabash Tankers Win at Illinois Wesleyan

Wabash won 10 of the 17 schedule events Saturday to claim a 164-118 victory over Illinois Wesleyan University Saturday afternoon in the final dual meet of the 2011-2012 swimming and diving season.

Results

The Little Giants nabbed eight individual victories and won both relay races. Steve Batchelder, Andy Chorpenning, and Carter Adams scored two individual victories apiece.

Chorpenning won the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:19.78, followed by a victory in the 500-yard free with a time of 5:03.13. Batchelder won the 100 breaststroke (1:02.44) and the 200 breast (2:16.66). Adams scored victories in the 200 butterfly (1:59.43) and the 100 fly (53.93). Chorpenning was also second in the 400-yard individual medley (4:37.45).

Aaron Troyer won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.47. He also took second place in the 200-yard backstroke (1:57.94). Charles Williams picked up the final individual victory with a winning time of 49.94 in the 100-yard freestyle.

Troyer, Paul Buescher, Adams, and Alex Beck opened the meet by winning the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:39.24. The quartet of Batchelder, Alex Hawkins, Beck, and Troyer also won the 200 free relay (1:29.69).

Jake Childress added a second-place finish in the 100 backstroke (54.44), with David Phillips finishing third (55.87). Buescher captured second place in the 100 breaststroke, touching the wall in 1:02.57, while Matt Schramm grabbed third place (1:03.57). Hawkins finished third in the 200 fly (2:06.96), while Phillips took third place in the 200 backstroke (2:03.82). Adam Barnes scored a second-place finish in the 500 free (5:05.24), with teammated Logan Falley finishing in third place (5:12.82) in the same event. Brad Wised added a third in the 100 butterfly (58.34). Logan Rice finished third in the 400 IM (4:43.90.

Nik Jones posted a score of 121.60 in the one-meter diving competition to finish second.

Wabash will now prepare for the annual North Coast Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships. The three-day meet will be held February 16-18 at the C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton, Ohio.
