Box Score Wabash dominated the pain Wednesday night at Neal Fieldhouse in Greencastle, but a series of four consecutive three-pointers by DePauw gave the Tigers a 60-49 victory.
Little Giant forwards
Daniel Purvlicis and
Pete Nicksic combined for 31 points on 11-of-18 shooting and were the only players for either team to score in double figures in the North Coast Athletic Conference contest. Purvlicis his 6 of his 8 attempts to earn high-point honors with 16 points. Nicksic finished with 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting.
The struggles for Wabash came from three-point range. The Little Giants finished 1-of- 16 for 6 percent from beyond the arc.
Austin Hawn hit the only triple of the night, with that shot coming in a key point in the contest. DePauw led 43-41 with 6:28 left to play when the Tigers caught fire from three-piont range, hitting three consecutive shots.
Purvlicis scored the only points for Wabash during that run on a tip-in basket of a missed jumper by Nicksic. Hawn nailed his three-pointer with 3:45 remaining to trim the lead to six points, but Pat Haggin answered at the other end for DePauw. The Little GIants would get no closer than seven points down the stretch on two Nicksic free throws.
The Wabash inside game was strong from the start. Purvlicis scored 10 of his points in the opening period, with Nicksic adding eight points to boost the Little Giants to a 24-20 lead at the break.
Adam Botts and Michael Johnson each scored 9 points to lead DePauw (9-5, 2-3 NCAC). Michael Wilkinson and Connor Rich tossed in 8 points apiece.
Wabash (4-10, 2-3 NCAC) is off for a week before returning to Chadwick Court for an NCAC meeting with Wittenberg University.
