Wabash Celebrates Seniors With Dominating Dual-Meet Win Over IWU

Wabash honored the five senior members of its 2018-2019 swimming and diving team prior to its final home dual meet of the season Friday evening. The Little Giants defeated Illinois Wesleyan University 198-63.

Wabash teammates and the fans celebrated Sam Colaiacova, Chris Dabrowski, Aaron Embree, Kyle Louks, and Joe Whitaker prior to a dominating performance with the Little Giants earning first-place finishes in all 16 events.

"Tonight we celebrated the seniors in spectacular fashion," Wabash head coach Will Bernhardt said. "Their hard work, time, and dedication to our program and the college really shined. The team really supported and honored them well. I want to thank our seniors for their leadership and commitment to our current program and being great ambassadors for the future of our program. We are a better team because they are a part of it."

Wabash opened the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay. Joshua Powers, Wesley Slaughter, Louks, and Joey Karczewski combined for a time of 1:41.46. Dabrowski captured the next top finish for the Little Giants by winning the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:07.43. Justin Wallar touched the wall first in the 200 freestyle with a top time of 1:47.86. He earned a win in the 200-yard individual medley by finishing in 2:00.28.

Powers scored an individual victory in the 100-yard backstroke by finishing in 57.66. Colaiacova placed first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04.37. Slaughter picked up a win in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 48.26. Ben Klimczak turned in a time of 2:01.59 to win the 200-yard backstroke. Hunter Jones placed first in the 200-yard breaststroke by finishing in 2:10.57. Louks scored an individual win in the100 butterfly with a time of 52.93.

Embree won both diving events for Wabash. He scored a total of 246.60 points to capture the one-meter individual title, then earned first place on the three-meter board with a score of 242.05.

The Little Giants closed out the meet by winning the 200-yard freestyle relay. The quartet of Sheridan, Powers, Klimczak, and Dziadek combined for a top time of 1:29.93.

"Coming off of our winter training trip, the men are worn down and fatigued," Bernhardt said. "They didn't let that tiredness get in the way of their performance. They stepped up and really competed for each and every swim and dive. Every person competed with passion and energy and that was wonderful to see and experience.

"We are in the final phases of our preparation for the conference championship in just a few weeks. We are excited for the end of the season and what it holds for our men."

Wabash will travel to Albion College next Saturday for a 1 p.m. dual meet, then will close out the dual-meet portion of the season at Washington University of St. Louis on January 26.
