Jones Runs Career-Best Time To Secure 2019 NCAA Qualifying Spot

Wabash junior RaShawn Jones raced to the fastest 110-meter hurdles time of his career to win that event at the 2019 Great Lakes Final Qualifying Meet at Ohio Wesleyan University on Thursday and solidify a place in the 2019 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship Meet field.

Jones broke the tape in 14.30 in the finals to tie for the fifth-fastest time of the season in DIII in the 110-meter hurdles. He broke his previous top time in the preliminary round of the meet with a finals qualifying time of 14.49. Josh Wiggins produced a career-best time in the 110-meter hurdles prelims by finishing the race in 14.86.

The Little Giants also competed at the Gregory Last Chance Qualifying Meet at North Central College in Illinois on Wednesday and Thursday. The Wabash 4x400-meter relay team of Preston Whaley, Andrew Young, Tyler Ramsey, and Keith Abramson put together their fastest result of the season at 3:17.69 but were not able to crack the top-16 list to earn a qualifying spot at the 2019 NCAA DIII Championship Meet.

The official qualifying list for the NCAA Championships will be released Saturday, May 18 by 9 a.m. The meet takes place May 23-25 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. The University of Mount Union will serve as the host institution.
