Wabash, DePauw Combine To Host Virtual Swim Meet

Traditional rivals Wabash College and DePauw University will join forces to host a virtual swimming invitational, Nov. 9-22.

Twenty NCAA Division II and  III men's and women's teams are scheduled to participate in this virtual invitational, where teams will swim in home pools and report the results to the coaching staffs at Wabash and DePauw, respectively.

The true goal of this virtual meet is to provide a competitive environment from swims in advance of the Thanksgiving holiday.

"We are excited to co-host such a great virtual invitational," said Will Bernhardt, Wabash College head swimming coach. "Due to COVID restrictions, in-person meets aren't possible, so joining with DePauw to co-host this virtual event feels like a great way to come together for the benefit of the student-athletes. Rivalry aside, the purpose of this virtual meet is to help our swimmers and divers finish a tough semester with some great swimming and diving. While we haven't had a normal schedule this semester, I do think we are in a good place to post some competitive times."

Current NCAA swimming and diving rules will govern this meet. Each individual is allowed to enter a maximum of nine scoring events (five individual events/four relays or four individual events/five relays). Extra entries must be marked as an exhibition at the time of entry. There is no limit to the number of relays a team may enter. Divers will compete for six dives on each board.

There will be no team scoring, but virtual awards will be presented via DePauw's and Wabash's swimming and diving social media accounts. Teams have the option to swim and dive over two weekends or five weekdays from Nov. 9-22. Wabash will compete over a three-day period beginning Thursday, November 12. Live video of the Little Giants' events will be available at https://team1sports.com with live results at http://upload.swimcloud.com/186235 and through MeetMobile.

In addition to the co-hosts, the following teams are scheduled to compete: Albion, Allegheny, Birmingham-Southern, Centre, Chicago, Davenport, Denison, Franklin, Hiram, Kenyon, Montevallo, Mount Union, Oberlin, Ohio Northern, Ohio Wesleyan, Penn State-Behrend,Washington University in St. Louis, and Wittenberg.

"We have 20 teams competing and it is exciting to see such a strong turnout," said Bernhardt. "There was a desire for a way to fill the void of in-person competitions, and we are happy to help. We look forward to seeing how we stack up against some strong teams."
