Wesley Slaughter and
Jan Dziadek broke school records and
Caleb McCarty broke a freshman at the Indiana University First Chance Meet held over the weekend in Bloomington.
Slaughter broke his own school record in the 50-yard freestyle and improved his position on the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championship qualifying list. He touched the wall with a time of 20.57 to improve on his record time of 20.59 turned in one week ago at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship Meet held at Denison University. His time is currently tied for 28th on the DIII qualifying list.
McCarty completed the 50 free in 20.99 to break Slaughter's record of 21.02 set in 2018.
Dziadek turned in a time of 48.37 over the first 100 yards of the 200-yard butterfly event to eclipse his own record of 49.04 which he set at the NCAC Championship Meet. The 48.37 time is tied for tenth overall on the current NCAA list of top times for the season.
"Overall it was a successful weekend," Wabash head coach
Will Bernhardt said. "It's always hard to match the intensity and atmosphere of a conference championship meet, but our men did a great job of being mentally prepared and had a plan for their races. The last session was probably our best with all the guys swimming best times in the 50 free, including a new school and freshman records. Jan's 100 fly leadoff time for his 200-yard butterfly was another school record.
"We are hopeful to get a few of our guys called to the NCAA meet later this week. Now the waiting game begins."
The official entry list for the 2020 NCAA Championship Meet will be announced on Tuesday, February 25 at
