Wabash scored 72 points to post the highest finish by an NCAA Division III swimming and diving team at Saturday's Dan Ross Indiana Intercollegiate Meet at Purdue University.
The Little Giant foursome of
Nicholas Plumb,
Eddie DaMata,
Connor Craig, and
Gavin Pizarek opened the meet with an 11th-place finish, the highest by a D3 team, in the 200-medley relay by finishing with a time of 1:39.80.
Ethan Johns turned in the top DIII effort in the 200-yard freestyle by finishing in 16th place with a time of 1:46.77. Freshman
Quinn Sweeney scored points in the 100-yard individual medley with the best DIII performance, finishing in 58.84 to capture 14th place. Sweeney added an 11th-place finish in the 500 freestyle with a DIII-best time of 4:58.90.
Plumb raced to 12th place in the 100-yard backstroke to post the top DIII time of 53.57 in the event.
Wabash closed the meet with a seventh-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay. The quartet of Sweeney, Johns,
Daniel Streeter, and
John Allen posted the best time by a DIII team at 1:28.65.
The Little Giants scored 72 points to finish two points ahead of Rose-Hulman in sixth place with 70 points. Purdue won the meet with 556.5 points, followed by IUPUI in second with 536.5 points. Ball State finished third with a score of 481, and Southern Indiana finished fourth with 169 points.
Wabash competes at home next Friday evening in a head-to-head dual meet against Rose-Hulman at 7 p.m. at the Class of 1950 Natatorium before traveling to Hillsdale, Michigan, to race against Albion College on Saturday.
