Wabash removed the interim tag from wrestling coach
Jake Fredricksen, elevating the five-year assistant to head coach of the Little Giant program.
Â
Fredricksen was named interim head coach on August 24 of this year.
Â
"Jake's leadership signals an exciting new era for the wrestling program," Wabash Director of Athletics and Campus Wellness Matt Tanney said. "He's committed to the success of our scholar-athletes on and off the mat and experienced championship-level wrestling as both an athlete and coach. Wrestling at Wabash offers an experience without parallel in NCAA Division III, and with Coach Fredricksen, that opportunity will continue for our students."
Â
Fredricksen joined the Little Giants' coaching staff in 2018. He was named associate head coach of the program in 2022. He has coached 14 All-Americans and two national champions while helping guide the 2022 Little Giants to second place at the NCAAs behind five All-American performances.
Â
Fredricksen was an assistant at the University of Indianapolis for one season. He worked with four Division II national qualifiers and an All-American. Fredricksen was an assistant coach at North Central College from 2014-2017. He earned his bachelor's degree from Wisconsin-Whitewater in 2013. He was a three-time team captain, three-time national qualifier, and team MVP for the Warhawks. Fredricksen earned his master's degree from North Central in 2016.
Â
"I'm excited for the opportunity," Fredricksen said. "It means a great deal that Wabash has faith in me and the rest of our coaching staff to continue this program's success. Wabash is an amazing institution that produces young men who do extraordinary things in their lives after graduating. To show that the College believes I can keep bringing in men who are dedicated to a high level of academic and athletic accomplishment is a real honor."
