Jake Oostman leads a field of 11 competitors after the first five events of the men's decathlon at the 2023 North Coast Athletic Conference Multi-Events Meet. The decathlon is the first event of the 2023 NCAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Oostman scored 3,519 points on the first day of competition. He picked up 797 points by completing the 100-meter dash in a personal-best time of 11.29. He turned in another personal-best performance with a leap of 6.58 meters (21 feet, 7.25 inches) to add another 716 points to his score. Oostman turned in his best all-time throw in the shot put with a mark of 12.19 meters (40 feet) to score another 618 points. He cleared 1.83 meters (6 feet) to pick up 653 points in the high jump. He closed out the day with a personal-best time of 51.76 in the 400-meter dash to score 735 points.

Landon Miller finished the first day with 2,760 points and is fourth in the standings heading into Sunday's final five events. The junior scored 746 points with a career-best time of 11.53 in the 100-meter dash. He added another  358 points with a leap of 4.87 meters (15 feet, 11.75 inches) in the long jump. Miller scored 466 points with his career-best mark of 9.68 meters (31 feet, 9.25 inches) in the shot put. He cleared a career-best 1.71 meters (5 feet, 7.25 inches) to score 552 points. Miller finished the day with a 638-point effort in the 400-meter dash by completing the lap in a career-best time of 54.04.

Giovonni Zappala finished day one with 2,734 points to claim sixth place. He finished the 100-meter dash in a career-best time of 11.99 to score 653 points. His leap of 5.72 meters (18 feet, 9.25 inches) yielded 527 points. Zappala threw 8.83 meters (28 feet, 1.75 inches) in the shot put to add another 416 points to his score. He cleared 1.65 meters (5 feet, 5 inches) to score 504 points in the high jump. Zappala finished the 400-meter dash in 54.14 to score 634 points.

The final five events takes place Sunday afternoon at Oberlin College, starting with the 110-meter hurdles at 11 a.m.

A handful of Little Giants competed at the Sycamore Open at Indiana State University Saturday afternoon.

Ryan Papandria produced the top placement for Wabash in the non-scoring meet with a second-place finish in the javelin with his throw of 46.81 meters (153 feet, 7 inches). Josh Mangred finished in sixth place with a career-best throw of 39.32 meters (129 feet).
Takeshi Greiner placed third in the 110-meter hurdles by finishing in 15.49.
Josh Massaquoi finished in 16.59 to capture fourth place.

Sly Williams turned in a leap of 6.57 meters (21 feet, 6.75 inches) to finish in fifth place in the long jump.
Seth Acero finished sixth in the 100-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 11.41.

Quinn Sholar's top effort of 14.49 meters (47 feet, 6.5 inches) earned a fifth-place finish in the shot put.
Reis Thomas finished seventh with a top throw of 13.12 meters (43 feet, 0.5 inches).
John Schnerre finished ninth with a throw of 12.18 meters (39 feet, 11.5 inches).

Noah Pendleton placed fifth in the discus with a throw of 39.01 meters (128 feet).
Connor Wakefield finished fifth in the hammer throw with a career-best toss of 46.43 meters (152 feet, 4 inches).
Lane Brockman placed sixth with a career-best throw of 43.60 meters (143 feet).
Stuart Anker scored a seventh-place finish in the high jump by clearing 1.75 meters (5 feet, 8.75 inches).
