Wabash Captures Two Individual Titles, Four All-NCAC Performances At NCAC T&F Championships

Little Giants Finish Second In Team Scoring

Wabash captured two individual titles and four all-conference efforts to earn a second-place finish at the 2023 North Coast Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
 
The Little Giants finished with 129 total points to trail 2023 conference champion Denison with 162 points. Oberlin finished third with 118 points, with Wittenberg taking fourth place with 114 points. DePauw (105 points), Wooster (97.5 points), Kenyon (58 points), and Ohio Wesleyan (34.5 points) completed the team scoring.
 
Haiden Diemer-McKinney and Brayden Curnutt won individual titles for Wabash on Saturday. Diemer-McKinney turned in the ninth-fastest time in Division III to win the 800-meter run. He claimed the top spot with a career-best time of 1:50.31. Will Neubauer earned all-conference honors with his second-place finish by crossing the line in a career-best 1:52.52. Aidan Makled added another career-best time of 4:04.27 to finish in fifth place.
 
Curnutt raced to first place in the 1500-meter run with a career-best time of 3:54.78 to pick up all-conference honors. Makled posted another career-best time in the 1,500 with a seventh-place time of 4:04.27.
 
Quinn Sholar picked up all-conference honors with a second-place finish in the shot put. He turned in a top distance of 15.44 meters (50 feet, 8 inches). Brandon English produced a top throw of 14.25 meters (46 feet, 9 inches) to place seventh overall.
 
Thomas Gaines turned in a career-best time of 15:16.45 in the 5,000-meter run to finish fourth overall. The Wabash team of Howie Steele, Nathan France, Neubauer, and Diemer-McKinney posted the Little Giants' fastest time of the season in the 4x400-mete relay by finishing in 3:19.94 to earn fourth place. Steele joined Sly Williams, Seth Acero, and Ethan Hurt to finish fourth in the 4x100-mete relay with a time of 42.94.
 
Giovonni Zappala placed fourth in the javelin throw with his career-best mark of 47.38 meters (155 feet, 5 inches). Ryan Papandria scored a fifth-place finish with a throw of 45.21 (148 feet, 4 inches).
 
Takeshi Greiner finished in fifth place in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.67. Josh Massaquoi bettered his own career-best time from Friday's preliminary heat with his Saturday finals time in the 110-meter hurdles. The freshman finished in 15.64 to capture sixth place. Greiner finished in seventh place with a time of 15.96. Zappala scored an eighth-place finish with a time of 16.28.
 
Williams took sixth place in the triple jump with a career-best leap of 13.22 meters (41 feet, 5 inches). TK Walls placed seventh in the 400-meter run by finishing in 50.31.
