The Wabash College track and field squad earned All-Academic Team honors from the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) in a Thursday announcement. In addition,
Haiden Diemer-McKinney,
Jake Oostman,
Quinn Sholar, and
Reis Thomas received individual recognition as All-Academic Athletes.
Â
Wabash recorded a 3.3 team grade point average for the 2022-23 academic year. Teams with a 3.1 GPA or higher received All-Academic Team honors from the USTFCCCA. A total of 167 NCAA Division III men's programs earned All-Academic Team honors in 2023.
Â
Diemer-McKinney, Oostman, Sholar, and Thomas joined 534 other NCAA Division III men recognized by the USTCCCA for their academic and athletic accomplishments. Individuals earning All-Academic Athletic recognition must have produced a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher and have either finished among the top-50 individuals on the indoor or outdoor track and field national performance list, be a member of a top-35 relay team, or have participated at the 2023 NCAA DIII Indoor or Outdoor National Championships.
Â
"This is phenomenal for our program, our athletics department, and our College," Wabash head track and field coach
Clyde Morgan said. "This is one of our team goals every year. It's part of our team culture. Years ago, we missed earning All-Academic Team honors by a tenth of a point. You would have thought we lost the national championship by the team's reaction to not earning that designation from the USTFCCA. Being named a USTFCCCA All-Academic Team and earning individual All-Academic Athlete awards is always a big accomplishment. I'm proud of our team, coaches, and support staff for helping accomplish this goal."
