DeBello, Sholar Garner Weekly Conference Honors

Two record-breaking performances at Emory University's Thrills In The Hills meet earned Wabash College a pair of North Coast Athletic Conference's weekly men's outdoor track and field honors, with freshman Brock DeBello named NCAC Men's Sprints/Hurdles Athlete of the Week and senior Quinn Sholar selected as the conference's Men's Field Athlete of the Week.

The pair delivered nationally significant efforts for the Little Giants at the non-scoring meet Friday and Saturday, each rewriting the Wabash record book.

Sholar produced one of the premier throwing performances in NCAA Division III this spring, smashing the Wabash shot put record with a winning toss of 17.84 meters (58 feet, 6 1/2 inches). The mark eclipsed the previous school standard of 16.24 meters (53-3 1/2), set by Derek De St. Jean in 2014, by more than five feet.

The senior's record-setting throw currently stands as the top shot put mark in Division III this season by six-tenths of a meter, underscoring his national championship potential after earning All-America honors earlier this month during the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Sholar added two more standout performances in the throwing events. He placed second in the discus with a toss of 46.52 meters (152-7), a mark that ranks 22nd nationally in Division III, and finished sixth in the hammer throw at 50.83 meters (166-9), which currently sits 46th on the national performance list.

DeBello matched that record-setting standard on the track, breaking a 12-year-old Wabash record in the 400-meter dash with a first-place finish in 46.95 seconds. The freshman shattered the previous school record of 47.99 set by John Haley in 2013, lowering the mark by more than a full second.

His time ranks second in NCAA Division III this season and further cements DeBello's emergence as one of the nation's top quarter-milers after he, like Sholar, earned All-America recognition at the NCAA indoor championships two weeks earlier.

DeBello also posted a strong performance in the 200-meter dash, finishing in 22.36 seconds to place 24th in a deep field of 77 competitors.
