MARION, Ind. — The Wabash College track and field team continued its outdoor season at the Indiana Little State Championships, hosted by Indiana Wesleyan University on Friday and Saturday. The Little Giants tied for fourth place out of 21 teams with 68 points, matching Vincennes and finishing ahead of Indiana Kokomo. Marian (Ind.) won the team title with 137.5 points.
Wabash captured two individual event titles and recorded 12 top-eight finishes over the two-day meet.
Senior Sly Williams led the way, winning the triple jump Friday with a mark of 14.55 meters (47 feet, 8.75 inches). He also placed second in the long jump at 6.94 meters (22 feet, 9.25 inches). Fellow senior Mike Holsclaw finished seventh in the triple jump with a personal-best outdoor mark of 12.84 meters (42 feet, 1.5 inches).
On the track, freshman Brock DeBello won the 400-meter dash in 48.12 seconds. Senior Conner Grimes added a seventh-place finish in the 100 meters in 10.82 and later teamed with Williams, Tanner Brooks and Carter Leininger to place fifth in the 4x100-meter relay with a season-best time of 41.83.
In the distance events, freshman Sam Vaught recorded a third-place finish and a personal best of 3:57.43 in the 1,500 meters, while senior Haiden Diemer-McKinney placed sixth in 3:59.77. Junior David Adesanya added a fourth-place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 1:54.51.
The throwing events were highlighted by senior Quinn Sholar, who recorded a pair of runner-up finishes. He placed second in the hammer throw Friday with a personal-best mark of 57.40 meters (188 feet, 4 inches), the 13th-best among Division III throwers, and added a second-place finish in the discus at 46.63 meters (153 feet).
Ben Thompson rounded out the top-eight finishes for Wabash, placing eighth in the 400-meter hurdles with a collegiate-best time of 59.12.
Wabash will send select individuals to Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Illinois, next weekend before competing at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships in two weeks.
