Wabash Trio Honored As NCAC Athletes Of The Week

Three members of the Wabash College track and field team earned Athlete of the Week honors from the North Coast Athletic Conference for their performances at Saturday's Mount St. Joseph University Invitational. Freshman Carter Leininger was named the NCAC Men's Indoor Sprints / Hurdles Athlete of the Week, senior Brayden Curnutt earned NCAC Men's Indoor Mid-Distance / Distance Athlete of the Week, and junior Quinn Sholar was honored as the NCAC Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week.
 
Leininger posted the third-fastest time in the finals of the 60-meter dash and the quickest of the season by an NCAC runner by finishing the race in 7.05 at Saturday's meet. He qualified for the finals with a preliminary heat time of 7.08. Leininger also ran the leadoff leg of the Little Giants' winning 4x200-meter relay team that produced a top time of 1:34.80.
 
Curnutt won the 3,000-meter run on Saturday by posting the ninth-fastest time in Division III this season. Curnutt won the event with a time of 8:30.98, finishing 40 seconds ahead of the rest of the 13 runners competing in the event.
 
His time is 14 seconds off the top mark turned in this season in Division III.
 
Sholar scored second-place finishes in the shot put and weight throw on Saturday. The junior produced a top mark of 15.26 meters (50 feet, 0.75 inches) to earn second place in the shot put. Sholar turned in a top throw of 17.17 meters (56 feet, 4 inches) to place second in the weight throw.
 
The shot put mark is tops among North Coast Athletic Conference throwers this season while the weight throw ranks second in the NCAC.
