Wabash Takes Down IWU In Dual-Meet Action

BLOOMINGTON, Illinois --- Wabash scored wins in all 13 events at Friday night's dual meet at Illinois Wesleyan University to earn a 161-33 dual-meet victory.
 
The Little Giant foursome of Barret Smith, Eddie DaMata, Mason Gilliam, and Daniel Streeter opened the meet with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay, combing for a time of 1:42.44. Brody Page, Aidan Mason, Ethan Johns, and Grayson Goff captured second place by finishing in 1:44.34.
 
Gilliam followed with an individual victory in the 1000-yard freestyle, producing a winning time of 10:00.54. Nicholas Plumb placed second by finishing in 10:25.94, and Goff took third place with a time of 11:12.11.
 
Xander Straw won the 200-yard freestyle with his time of 1:51.52. Gilliam finished second at 1:51.96. Quinn Sweeney captured the individual title in the 50-yard freestyle by touching the wall in 22.52. John Allen finished second with a time of 23.02. Ryan West won the 200-yard individual medley with his time of 2:01.55. Sweeney also won the 100-yard breaststroke by finishing in 1:01.68. West placed second with a time of 1:03.22. DaMata finished in third place at 1:03.55.
 
Johns picked up a victory in the 100-yard butterfly by posting a winning time of 54.38. Connor Craig finished third for Wabash with a time of 54.88. Nicholas Sommers won the 100-yard backstroke with a top time of 55.82. Smith finished in second place at 55.87, and Justice Wenz finished in third place with a time of 59.99.
 
Plumb won the 500-yard freestyle with his time of 4:58.54. Streeter added a third-place finish for the Little Giants by posting a time of 5:07.28.
 
Sweeney, Wenz, Allen, and Sommers combined to win the 200-yard freestyle with their time of 1:32.98. West, Dane Market, Craig, and Mark Berger took second place, finishing at 1:34.89.
 
Christopher Wiatr won the one-meter diving competition, scoring a total of 176.75 points. Alexander Arruza scored 174.85 points to finish in second place. Nicolas Hakimian finished in third place with 173.45 points. Arruza won the three-meter diving event with a score of 196.30. Hakimian finished in second place with a score of 170.80 points. Michael Cruzado placed third by scoring 157.15 points.  
 
Wabash wraps up the dual-meet portion of its season next Saturday when the Little Giants travel to Indianapolis to compete against the NCAA Division I program from IU Indy.
