Curnutt, Williams Earn Weekly Conference Track Awards

A pair of Wabash College track and field members received North Coast Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week honors for their performances last weekend. Senior Brayden Curnutt won his third NCAC Men's Mid-Distance / Distance Athlete of the Week Award after breaking the Wabash record in the 3,000-meter run on Saturday. Junior Sly Williams was named the NCAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week for his efforts in the long jump on Saturday.

Curnutt broke the school record while winning the 3,000-meet run at Saturday's Fairgrounds Invitational held at the Fall Creek Pavillion at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.

He won the race with a time of 8:22.22 on the 200-meter banked track, outracing the field of 21 runners from NCAA Division I, II, and III and NAIA programs by more than a second. He eclipsed the former Wabash record of 8:27.18 held by Nick Boyce and set in 2015. Curnutt also broke the Wabash 5,000-meter record nearly one month ago at North Central College. He earned NCAC Men's Mid-Distance / Distance Athlete of the Week Awards on January 14 and 21 before receiving this week's award.

Williams placed second in the long jump at the Anderson Invitational to help Wabash finish in a tie for third place out of 11 teams competing at the meet.

Williams turned in a leap of 6.73 meters (22 feet, 1 inch) for the second-longest mark this season among NCAC men competing in the event. The effort is the second-longest jump of Williams' career in indoor competition.

Williams also placed seventh in the finals of the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.14.
