Petroski Leads Wabash Decathlon Effort To Open NCAC Championships

GRANVILLE, Ohio — Wabash College freshman Tyler Petroski scored 5,693 points to finish fourth in the decathlon as the 2026 North Coast Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships began Saturday and Sunday with the combined-events competition hosted by Denison University.

Petroski earned five team points for Wabash with his fourth-place finish. Freshman Ricky Sanders added two points by placing seventh with 5,252 points. Senior Ryan Adams finished 13th with 3,745 points for the Little Giants.

Petroski opened the two-day competition by scoring 778 points in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.38 seconds. He added 589 points in the long jump with a leap of 6.01 meters (19 feet, 8.75 inches), then scored 440 points in the shot put with a mark of 9.24 meters (30 feet, 3.75 inches). Petroski cleared 1.79 meters (5 feet, 10.5 inches) in the high jump for 619 points before closing the first day with 761 points in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.19.

Petroski finished the first five events with 3,187 points. He opened Sunday's competition by scoring 506 points in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 18.19. Petroski added 517 points in the discus throw with a toss of 32.68 meters (107 feet, 3 inches), then scored 631 points in the pole vault by clearing 4.05 meters (13 feet, 3.5 inches). He scored 359 points in the javelin throw with a mark of 34.19 meters (112 feet, 2 inches) and finished the meet with 493 points in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 5:11.86.

Sanders opened with 771 points in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.41 seconds. He scored 615 points in the long jump with a mark of 6.13 meters (20 feet, 1.5 inches), then added 396 points in the shot put with a throw of 8.50 meters (27 feet, 10.75 inches). Sanders scored 569 points in the high jump by clearing 1.73 meters (5 feet, 8 inches) before adding 730 points in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.88.

Sanders finished the opening day with 3,081 points. He scored 570 points in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 17.53 to begin Sunday's competition. Sanders added 276 points in the discus throw with a mark of 20.21 meters (66 feet, 4 inches), then scored 549 points in the pole vault by clearing 3.75 meters (12 feet, 3.5 inches). He added 256 points in the javelin throw with a toss of 26.93 meters (88 feet, 4 inches) and closed the meet by scoring 520 points in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 5:07.10.

Adams scored 628 points in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.12 seconds to begin the competition. He added 429 points in the long jump with a mark of 5.24 meters (17 feet, 2.25 inches) and 463 points in the shot put with a throw of 9.62 meters (31 feet, 6.75 inches). Adams did not record a height in the high jump but finished the first day by scoring 535 points in the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.63.

Adams entered Sunday with 2,055 points. He scored 169 points in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 22.67, then added 320 points in the discus throw with a toss of 22.56 meters (74 feet). Adams scored 576 points in the pole vault by clearing 3.85 meters (12 feet, 7.5 inches), then added 353 points in the javelin throw with a mark of 33.78 meters (110 feet, 10 inches). He finished with 272 points in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 5:57.96.

Wittenberg's Nick Farfoglia won the decathlon with 6,161 points. Ohio Wesleyan's Michael Strange finished second with 5,988 points, followed by Kenyon's Joshua Greville in third place with 5,846 points. Petroski took fourth, Denison's Justin Tharayil placed fifth with 5,678 points, and DePauw's Tucker Risley finished sixth with 5,566 points.

Wabash finished third in the decathlon team scoring with seven points. Wittenberg leads the men's standings with 10 points, followed by Ohio Wesleyan with nine, Wabash with seven, Kenyon with six, Denison with four and DePauw with three. The NCAC Championships conclude Friday and Saturday, May 1-2, at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio.
