Sholar Wins Discus Title To Lead Wabash On Opening Day At NCAC Championships

GAMBIER, Ohio — Quinn Sholar delivered a conference title and a career-best performance Friday to lead Wabash College through the first full day of competition at the 2026 North Coast Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Kenyon College's Wilder Track and McBride Field.

Sholar won the men's discus with a throw of 51.77 meters, bettering his previous personal-best mark of 51.54 meters. The winning throw ranks Sholar 12th on the NCAA Division III performance list this season. He won the event by 6.87 meters over Kenyon's Graham Yeager, who finished second at 44.90 meters.

Wabash added two more scoring performances in the discus. William Boas placed seventh with a personal-best throw of 41.69 meters, while Jordan Tate finished eighth at a career-best mark of 41.65 meters.

The Little Giants also scored twice in the long jump. Freshman Colson Mendenhall finished fifth with a personal-best leap of 6.71 meters, improving on his previous top mark of 6.55 meters. Sly Williams placed sixth at 6.66 meters.

Ricardo Juarez added two team points for Wabash in the javelin with a seventh-place throw of 44.78 meters.

Wabash also advanced several athletes through Friday's preliminary races. Freshman Brock DeBello qualified for Saturday's 400-meter dash final with a time of 48.38 seconds, the second-fastest qualifying time in the field. Sam Vaught and David Adesanya both moved into the 800-meter final. Vaught won his heat in 1:55.85, while Adesanya won his heat in 1:55.91.

Owen Smith earned a spot in Saturday's 400-meter hurdles final after winning his preliminary heat in 55.88 seconds.

Wabash finished the day tied for fourth place in the team standings with Ohio Wesleyan at 29 points through six scored events. John Carroll led the men's standings with 47 points, followed by Kenyon with 37 and Wittenberg with 30. Denison was sixth with 24 points, followed by DePauw with 18, Oberlin with 15, and Wooster with five.

The final day of competition begins Saturday at 10 a.m.
