Wabash In First Place After First Day of NCAC Track and Field Championships

OBERLIN, Ohio --- Four all-conference performances and eight top-eight finishes put Wabash in first place in the men's standings after the first day of the 2024 North Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships.
 
Wabash finished the first day with 53 points to lead the nine teams competing at the two-day event. Wittenberg is second with 41 points, followed by Denison in third with 32 points. DePauw (28 points), Ohio Wesleyan (24 points), Oberlin (23 points), Wooster (12 points), Kenyon (11 points), and Hiram (10 points) to complete the first-day team scoring.
 
The Little Giants earned 21 points in the weight throw with four top-eight finishers and two top-three efforts to earn all-conference honors. Quinn Sholar won the event with a career-best throw of 18.23 meters (59 feet, 9.75 inches). Lane Brockman placed third to earn a medal as an all-conference performer with a top mark of 14.89 meters (48 feet, 10.25 inches). Jacob Guse finished in fifth place with his career-best throw of 14.75 meters (48 feet, 4.75 inches). Will Boas scored the final point in the event by finishing in eighth place with a mark of 14.64 meters (48 feet, 0.50 inches).
 
Brayden Curnutt continued his stellar senior season by winning the 5,000-meter run to earn all-conference honors. He crossed the finish line in 14:32.80 to add ten points to the Wabash team total. Curnutt joined Haiden Diemer-McKinney, David Adesanya, and Will Neubauer to score a second-place finish in the distance medley relay, combing for a time of 10:24.49.
 
Sly Williams finished in fourth place in the long jump with a leap of 6.78 meters (22 feet, 3 inches). Hugh Ford placed fourth in the pole vault by clearing 4.10 meters (13 feet, 5.25 inches). Nate Joven added a fifth-place finish in the pole vault at the same height of 4.10 meters.
 
The championship meet concludes on Saturday with events beginning at 10 a.m.
