Little Giants Start Outdoor Track and Field Season With Fifth-Place Finish at Rose-Hulman

TERRE HAUTE, Indiana  -– Wabash scored 15 top-six finishes to open the 2025 outdoor track and field season at the Rose-Hulman Early Bird Invitational. The Little Giants finished in fifth place out of ten teams competing at the meet.
 
Kannon Chase and Morgyn Clark placed third and fourth in the high jump. Chase cleared 1.85 meters (6 feet, 0.75 inches) to tie for the top height in the event but cleared the bar on his final attempt. Clark also topped out at 1.85 meters on his final attempt but needed three tries at an earlier height to finish in third place.
 
Nate Joven scored a third-place finish in the pole vault at a height of 4.12 meters (13 feet, 6.25 inches). Ryan Adams cleared 3.67 meters (12 feet, 0.5 inches) to finish in fourth place.  
 
Owen Smith earned a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles by posting a time of 58.01.
 
Freshman Sawyer Lewis ran to fourth place in the 800-meter dash with a time of 2:02.48. Carter Leininger tied for fifth place in the 200-yard dash by crossing the finish line in 22.54.
 
The Wabash foursome of Smith, Leininger, Julius Hearns, and Tanner Brooks combined to finish third in the 4x100-meter relay with their time of 43.20.
 
Quinn Sholar produced a top throw of 46.34 meters (152 feet, 0 inches) to capture third place in the hammer. Lane Brockman finished fourth with his throw of 46.21 meters (151 feet, 7 inches). William Boas placed fifth overall with a mark of 45.97 meters (150 feet, 6 inches). Evan Furuness finished in sixth place with a toss of 45.14 meters (148 feet, 1 inch). Furuness also earned a sixth-place finish in the discus with a mark of 38.25 meters (125 feet, 6 inches).
 
Ryan Papandria finished third in the javelin throw with a mark of 45.25 meters (148 feet, 5 inches).
 
Jakob Van Pelt captured sixth place in the shot put with a mark of 12.98 meters (42 feet, 7 inches).
 
Wabash tallied 82.5 points in the team scoring for its fifth-place finish. Rose-Hulman won the meet with 135 total points.
 
The Little Giants are scheduled to compete at next weekend's Illinois State University Invitational.
