SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — Record-breaking performances by Quinn Sholar in the weight throw, the Wabash distance medley relay and freshman Brock DeBello in the prelims of the 400-meter dash powered Wabash College into first place in the men's standings after Friday's opening day of the 2026 North Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Steemer Center on the campus of Wittenberg University.
Wabash piled up 46 team points to hold a three-point lead over host Wittenberg (43) heading into Saturday's final day of competition.
Sholar delivered the most significant mark of the day in the weight throw. The senior won the conference title with a toss of 18.69 meters, breaking the 2014 championship-meet record of 18.29 meters held by former Wabash thrower Derek De St. Jean and surpassing the long-standing Wabash school record of 18.41 meters set by the College's Athletics Hall of Famer Tom Puschak in 1988. The victory earned 10 team points and all-conference honors.
Wabash added another podium finish in the weight throw as Lane Brockman placed third at 16.41 meters to score six points and claim all-conference recognition. William Boas secured one additional team point with an eighth-place finish at 15.27 meters.
In the long jump, Sly Williams soared 6.97 meters to finish second overall, earning eight points and all-conference honors.
The Little Giants capped the evening with another historic performance in the distance medley relay. The quartet of Sam Vaught, Kaiden McGuire, David Adesanya and Haiden Diemer-McKinney captured the conference title in 10:08.73, shattering the previous NCAC record of 10:18.01 set in 2022. The win added 10 more points and all-conference accolades.
In the preliminary rounds, DeBello turned in a record-setting run in the 400-meter dash. The freshman clocked 48.60 seconds to finish second overall and break his own school record of 48.79 set Jan. 31, advancing to Saturday's final.
Wabash also advanced three runners to the 800-meter final. David Adesanya qualified in 1:55.38, Haiden Diemer-McKinney followed in 1:56.36 and Sawyer Lewis secured his spot in 1:57.21.
