CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. — Seven Wabash College student-athletes will compete in upcoming NCAA Division III championship events as the winter sports season concludes over the next two weeks.
Three Little Giant wrestlers will compete at the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships beginning Friday at the Alliant Energy PowerHouse in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Three members of the Wabash track and field team will take part in the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships starting Friday at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama. Wabash will also send one swimmer to the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships scheduled for March 18–21 at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis.
Senior James Day will compete at the national wrestling championships for the fourth time. A two-time All-American, Day finished third at 125 pounds in 2024 and fourth at 133 pounds at last year's national tournament. Day enters this year's championships as the No. 3 seed at 133 pounds after winning the NCAA Division III Region V title. He will face the winner of a preliminary-round match between Chase Creque of Baldwin Wallace and Wyatt Unser of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
Senior Jaylen Young earned his first trip to the national tournament after capturing the Region V championship at 174 pounds. Young opens competition against Jack Hoffman of Ohio Northern, with the winner advancing to face third-seeded Dustin Bohren of Loras.
Junior Titus Waters returns to the national tournament after winning the Region V title at 285 pounds for the second consecutive year. Waters enters the national meet as the No. 6 seed and will face 11th-seeded Andrew Vanscoy of Baldwin Wallace in the opening round. Waters defeated Vanscoy earlier this season, pinning him in the semifinal round of the Tom Jarman Spartan Mat Classic in January.
Competition in the wrestling championships begins Friday morning at 10 am Central Time, with the top eight finishers in each weight class advancing to the second day of competition. Saturday's semifinal and consolation rounds begin at 10 a.m. CT, with the championship finals scheduled for 7 p.m.
Three Wabash athletes will compete at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships beginning Friday morning in Birmingham. Seniors Quinn Sholar and Sly Williams and freshman Brock DeBello qualified for the national meet.
Sholar, the 2026 North Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Field Athlete of the Year, qualified for nationals in both the shot put and weight throw after setting school records in each event this season. His throw of 18.69 meters won the NCAC weight throw title and ranks among the top marks in Division III this season. Sholar also broke the Wabash shot put record with a toss of 17.47 meters at the DePauw Invitational.
Sholar will compete in the weight throw Friday beginning at 11 a.m. Eastern Time. The top nine throwers advance to the finals, with the top eight finishers earning First Team All-America honors and competitors finishing ninth through 16th earning Second Team All-America recognition. Sholar will also compete in the shot put Saturday at noon.
Williams qualified for nationals after breaking the Wabash indoor triple jump record with a leap of 14.72 meters at the NCAC Championships, where he finished second to earn all-conference honors, after already breaking the school's indoor long jump record earlier in the year. Williams will compete in the triple jump Saturday at noon, with the top nine competitors advancing to the finals.
DeBello set multiple school records during his freshman season, including the Wabash indoor 400-meter dash record. He established the current mark of 47.47 seconds at the NCAC Championships. DeBello will run in the preliminary heats of the 400 meters Friday at 4:25 p.m., with the eight fastest times advancing to Saturday's championship final.
Sophomore Ryan West will represent Wabash at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships. West will become the first Little Giant swimmer to compete at the national championships since 2016.
West qualified after winning the 200-yard breaststroke at the NCAC Championships, breaking his own school record with a time of 1:46.42. He is seeded 11th on the national psych sheet and will compete in preliminary trials Saturday, March 21, beginning at 10 a.m., with the top 16 swimmers advancing to the evening finals.
West will also compete in the 200-yard individual medley on Wednesday, March 18. The event will be the fourth race of the morning trials session scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. West is seeded 34th with a school-record time of 1:50.87 set at the conference championships.
West is also scheduled to swim in the preliminary heats of the 100-yard backstroke Friday, March 20, beginning at 10 a.m. He enters the event seeded 31st with a time of 49.27.
