Box Score After Saturday's overtime loss to nationally-ranked Hope College, Wabash head soccer coach
Chris Keller wanted to see his team be more aggresive on offense from the start of the match. His Little Giants responded Sunday, scoring two first-half goals on the way to a 3-0 victory over Monmouth College.
The victory came on the second day of the Robbie Dreher Soccer Classic, an event honoring the son of former Wabash soccer player Scott Dreher '82. Robbie died in a plane crash along with his mother and maternal grandparents in 2006. The win is the first for Keller at Wabash. He took over the Little Giants' program in July.
"We came out strong in the first half," Keller said. "We talked about some things in our restarts and we were able to capitalize on those today with two goals against Monmouth. We got our feet on the ground after that and were able to possess the ball in the second half.
"Overall it was a great result. To get three goals at home to end the classic is certainly a positive."

Steve Magura scored his first goal of the season in the 15th minute when a shot by
Blake Jennings glanced off the Monmouth goalkeeper. Magura got to the ball with his back to goal and lifted a bicyle kick past the keeper for a 1-0 lead.
Freshman
Adam Antalis netted his first career goal when a throw-in by
George Vinihakis sailed into the box to Antalis' feet. The first-year player put the shot in the goal to put Wabash up 2-0 in the 30th minute.
Jacob Nigh added a late goal on a direct kick from just beyond the front of the box for his first career goal and a 3-0 Wabash lead.
"This team doesn't really have one true goal scorer," Keller said. "We have a bunch of guys who can put the ball in the net. I believe that makes us difficult to defend. We just have to keep producing the same way and build on this effort."
Matt Paul turned aside all five shots on goal his faced to record his first shutout of the season and ninth of his career.
"The game plan was to keep Monmouth in front of us and we did that for the most part," Keller said. "A lot of their shots came from about 30 yards out and we're pretty confident that
Matt Paul can come up with those every time. It was a great shutout effort for the entire back unit. It's always good to have a clean sheet."
Wabash outshot the Scots 17-8 overall. The Little Giants put five shots on net, equalling Monmouth's total.
Levi Noblitt fired three shots in 80 minutes of playing time to pace the Wabash offense. Antalis put both of his shots on goal.
The Little Giants even their mark at 1-1 and will return to action Tuesday for a 5:30 p.m. home match against Saint Joseph's College at Mud Hollow Stadium.
"It's always good to get the win," Keller said. "I was happy with the whole weekend. It was unfortunate we couldn't come up with the win on Saturday, but I was pleased with the way we played. This will be a tough thing both physically and mentally to play so many games in a short amount of time. We'll have a light training session Monday, go over some tactical stuff, and will be ready to go on Tuesday."
