Box Score Blake Jennings and
Adam Antalis scored first-period goals to lead Wabash to a thrilling 2-1 Homecoming soccer victory over Wooster Saturday afternoon.
The Little Giants snapped a five-game losing streak and ended the Scots' two-game string of victories. Wooster was trying to record its first three-game winning streak in two seasons.
"This was a very important win for us today," Wabash Head Coach
Chris Keller said. "We earned an important three points for the victory and move even to 1-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference standings. There are no easy NCAC games, so that was a good 2-1 win."
Wabash fired three early shots that just missed going on net before Jennings collected a pass from
George Vinihakis in the 19th minute for a goal to put the Little Giants up 1-0. Antalis scored on a header off a pass from
Steve Magura in the 33rd minute for the eventual game-winning goal.
"We had a good game plan going into the attack at the start of the match," Keller said. "We created several chances early on and put two into the net."
Wabash put just three of its ten shots on net, scoring on two of the three tries. Jennings finished with two shots on goal and six total attempts.
Matt Paul stopped three of four shots on goal by Wooster (3-6, 0-1 NCAC) in the winning effort at goalkeeper.
"We defended pretty well after the first two goals to ride out the storm," Keller said. "Unfortunately we gave up the late goal, but overall it was a good effort by the defense --- really from everyone on the team. Now we're looking forward to going to Allegheny next Saturday."
Wabash improved to 3-8 overall with the victory. Keller, an assistant coach at Allegheny prior to taking the Wabash head coaching job in July, returns to Meadville Saturday with his Little Giant team.
