Box Score A strong first half for the Wabash soccer team gave way to a pair of goals for Ohio Wesleyan in a 2-0 loss to the top-ranked team in the nation.
Ohio Wesleyan (15-0, 4-0 NCAC), the number-one ranked team in Division III by both the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and D3soccer.com, simply proved too much for Wabash in the latter portion of the contest. The Little Giants played a superb defensive half in the first period, aided by a few key saves by goalkeeper
Dayton Jennings to take a 0-0 score into the break. But Ohio Wesleyan scored two quick goals at the outset of the second half, both by Brian Schaefer. Wabash earned a penalty late in the match, but and the final score remained 2-0.
          Â
"We executed the game plan that we had drawn up," Head Coach
Chris Keller said. "Considering that George and Adam weren't in the starting lineup in the back
Rodrigo Porras,
Evan Coudriet,
Steve Magura, and
Bobby Thompson played great back there. The whole team played really well.
          Â
"We executed our game plan and knew that we were only going to get two or three chances and when that happens we have to bury them. We were close on two of them. Missing the penalty kick with fifteen left hurt because that could have made things really interesting and increased the momentum. But overall I thought we played a good game and executed what I wanted us to execute so I'm happy with the performance."
          Â
Wabash got nine shots off in the match compared to Ohio Wesleyan's 27.Â
Riley Pelton led the Little Giants with four shots, two of which were on goal.
Dillon Cron also got a shot on goal for Wabash.
          Â
Dayton Jennings picked up four saves on the day.
