Box Score Wabash remained unbeaten with a 1-0 win at 23rd-ranked Rose-Hulman Wednesday night.
Â
The Little Giants' sixth victory of the season came thanks to a
Mike Gore goal and
Dayton Jennings' fourth shutout of the season. Jennings made four saves in the 90-minute match, picking up the final stop in the closing seconds as Rose mounted a last-ditch effort to send the match into overtime.
Â
Gore scored his second goal of the season after
Steve Magura's initial shot rebounded off the Fightin' Engineers' goalkeeper. Gore corralled the ball and slammed home what proved to be the eventual game-winning goal while Magura picked up his third assist. The attempts by Gore and Magura were the only shots on goal for Wabash. Rose outshot the Little Giants 9-6 overall, but the Little Giant defense helped Jennings keep a clean sheet by forcing the Fightin' Engineers into three offside calls in the match.
Â
"This was an excellent win against an equally-excellent team," Wabash Head Coach
Chris Keller said. "Rose really took it to us over the first 20 minutes. We rode out that storm and got settled in and played more of our style of soccer. The back line had a tremendous game once again along with Dayton's strong play in goal. This was really the result of good teamwork and effort. Now we're looking forward to carrying this momentum into our conference opener Saturday against Hiram."
Â
