Wabash Holds Third Place with 6-1 Win at Wittenberg

David Riggs scored two of the Little Giants' six goals in their 6-1 win at Wittenberg Wednesday evening.
Box Score Wabash held on to third place in the North Coast Athletic Conference standings with three games remaining after a 6-1 victory at Wittenberg Wednesday night.

The Little Giants picked up three points in the standings with the victory for a total of 13 points for the season. Wabash trails Kenyon and Oberlin by two points and own a one-point advantage over DePauw in fourth place and have a two-point advantage over Ohio Wesleyan in fifth. The top-four teams in the final regular season standings advance to the conference tournament.

The six-goal effort against Wittenberg (3-11-0, 0-6-0 NCAC) began early in the match. Nikola Kajmakoski scored his team-leading seventh goal of the year 1:55 into the match to provide the Little Giants a lead they would never relinquish. David Riggs scored the next goal — his second in as many games — in the 42nd minute for a 2-0 lead.

The Tigers scored their lone goal prior to halftime to cut the lead to 2-1. Wabash came out of the locker room firing shots on goal again. Stojan Krsteski started a four-goal offensive explosion with his first goal of the season 1:40 into the final period. Less than three minutes later, Wittenberg was called for a yellow card in the box. Spase Dorsuleski scored on the ensuing penalty kick to make the score 4-1.

Freshman Mohamed Ndour scored his first career goal in the 57th minute. Riggs added the final score in the 61st minute for the first two-goal game of his career.

"This was a great outing by the guys," Wabash head coach Chris Keller said. "We were strong mentally after dealing with lightning delays throughout the match. Scoring goals in the opening minutes of both halves really set the tone. We played well and finished our chances. Our bench play was particularly strong, as well. We got great goals from freshmen Mohamed and David. We can enjoy getting the three points tonight but we have to turn our attention immediately to Wooster on Saturday."

The Little Giants (9-4-2, 4-1-1 NCAC) travel to face the Scots at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
