BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — Illinois Wesleyan University scored three second-half goals to pull away from Wabash College for a 4-0 victory Saturday afternoon at Neis Field.
The loss drops Wabash to 4-6-0 on the season, while Illinois Wesleyan improves to 6-1-2.
The Titans grabbed an early lead just three minutes into the match when Joey Rodino found the back of the net off assists from Ryder Coleman and Hunter Reinberg. The goal stood as the only score of the first half despite several quality chances from both sides. Wabash fired six first-half shots, including two on target, while goalkeeper Ansel Rincon made four saves to keep the Little Giants close.
Illinois Wesleyan extended its advantage midway through the second half. Colby Thomas scored his first goal of the season in the 69th minute on a setup from Logan Tierney, who went on to add two assists in the half.
The Titans continued to apply pressure, with Cristian Schmidt making it 3-0 in the 83rd minute off assists from Rodino and Reinberg. Daniel Smazil capped the scoring with an 89th-minute goal, also assisted by Tierney.
Rincon finished with six saves for Wabash, while Illinois Wesleyan goalkeeper Sam Kedzior earned the shutout, stopping five shots.
Wabash recorded 11 total shots—five on goal—led by Bryce Kinnaman and Ethan Simmons, who each registered two shots on frame. Angel Vazquez paced the attack with three total attempts.
The Titans held a 22-11 advantage in shots and a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.
The Little Giants return to action next week when they begin North Coast Athletic Conference play with a Saturday match at Wittenberg University.
