Wabash College Athletics Hall of Fame
Argyle G. Jackson, the men of the Class of 1950 are proud of your lifetime achievements as talented student-athlete, business owner, and father. But there is, perhaps, no person more proud tonight than your son, Ben, Wabash Class of 1987. In spite of the fact he did not pledge your fraternity, Delta Tau Delta, he followed in your footsteps to Wabash and since his graduation has led a personal campaign for your enshrinement in this Hall of Fame. His support was helpful, but not entirely necessary.
Your athletic accomplishments at Larwill High School and later at Wabash are worthy of your induction. You were a four-year letterman in basketball and track for the Little Giants, setting a Wabash record in the high jump and earning a Little State Championship. You also served as the track team’s captain, and participated in any event that allowed you to soar above the competition.
The same was true on the hardwood of Chadwick Court, where you were a towering center. As a junior, you were routinely the team’s high scorer: 20 points vs. Tri-State; 17 vs. Earlham; 15 against DePauw. You canned the game-winning free throw to help Wabash nip Manchester 59-58. You helped the Little Giants make your senior year a winning season, and among other accolades, were the team’s leading scorer against Ball State. A member of the W Men’s Club and Sphinx Club, you graduated and became an industry leader. You founded and have served as president of Hoosier Gasket Corporation. And, finally, after 33 years of trying, your team won the Wabash Crock at the Indianapolis Alumni Association’s annual golf event. Indeed, golf is your love today, and your memberships at Crooked Stick, the Country Club of Indianapolis, and the Western Golf Association gets you in at some pretty fair courses.
For your exemplary athletic career and a lifetime of corporate leadership, the National Association of Wabash Men is proud to induct you, Argyle G. Jackson, in the Wabash Athletics Hall of Fame.
