Evan Rhinesmith, you were a literal trailblazer for the Wabash Swimming and Diving Team. Yes, our athletics history is dotted with scores of All-American performances and even national swimming champions. But you were the first Wabash swimmer to win an individual North Coast Athletic Conference title when you won the 100-yard breaststroke at the 2011 championships.

It was the dawn of a new era. Wabash had been competing in the NCAC for a decade by that point, but powerful Kenyon and Denison kept the Little Giants at a distance. In 2011, you and teammate David Birrer broke through with individual titles, helping Wabash to its best all-around performance at the NCACs.

That NCAC meet was a great one for you: You also set a school record in the 200 individual medley, taking out a record that had stood for 12 years, and you earned All-NCAC honors on the 400 medley and 400 freestyle relay teams. Your school-record time of 56.47 in the 100-yard breaststroke earned you a trip to the national championships, where you earned Honorable Mention All-America honors.

Over the course of your career, you set Wabash team records in the 100 IM, 200 IM, 50-yard breaststroke, and 100-yard breaststroke, while also competing on two record-setting relay teams. Even after all these years, you still rank among the top-10 times in four events.

Evan, Wabash’s swimming and diving program continues to achieve greatness, building on the championship you won at the NCACs. It is with great respect and admiration that we proudly induct you in the Wabash Athletics Hall of Fame.

Evan Rhinesmith, you are Some Little Giant!
