Wabash College Athletics Hall of Fame
Wabash’s sesquicentennial celebration included the national championship in basketball and a perfect, 10-0 season in football. The men of the 1982 football team that literally did every thing they needed to do to make the playoffs. And yet the Ohio coaches kept them out nonetheless. Led by captains David Broecker, Bill Wheeler, and Bill Kennedy and coached by Stan Parrish, the Little Giants went 10-0, ranked 5th in the final national poll, pounded DePauw 31-6, and won a truly memorable game over Dayton at Little Giant Stadium. Max Servies recalls the team in his book:
“Their incredible goal line stands against Albion and Illinois Wesleyan and their great offensive comeback against Dayton will long be remembered by Little Giants fans fortunate enough to have witnessed these exploits. Broecker and Wheeler made Academic All-American, and linebacker Jeff McLochlin was an honorable mention selection to the Little All-American squad.”
