Wabash College Athletics Hall of Fame
The problem with baseball is that because every season starts all over again and nothing is ever guaranteed, you sometimes don’t realize when you’re living through a “golden age” or era of true dominance.
That can absolutely be said of Wabash baseball from 2006 to 2009. Given all that was going on in the world (the Great Financial Crisis) and on campus (a new Wabash president), it was easy to lose sight of the fact that Wabash fielded two of its most consistent sluggers of all-time.
Matt Dodaro, you were one of them, and your teammate Jake Thomas will be inducted shortly. You came to Wabash together, started virtually every game over four years, and left as First Team All-Conference players and the best hitters in one of the most prolific offensive eras in Wabash history.
Matt, as a hitter, you were pure power and consistency. It’s amazing to think that you hit .369 as a freshman and you had a batting average of .344 over the course of 159 games! As for power, you hit 25 home runs, 43 doubles, and five triples in your career, while scoring 117 times and driving in another 116 runs. You rank in the top 10 all-time in nearly every offensive category, and you were twice elected to the All-NCAC First Team.
We still hear about your 2007 season when you homered twice against Ohio Wesleyan and twice against DePauw!
For your slick fielding, powerful swing, and remarkable consistency, the Wabash baseball team is proud to join with the NAWM to induct you in the Wabash Athletics Hall of Fame. Matt Dodaro, you are Some Little Giant!
